The old town

The best way to start your exploration of Pirna is at the tourist information, which is located in the "Canaletto-house" at the market square. Here, the friendly staff will help to plan your tour and give you hints to architecturally interesting buildings in Pirna. Additionally, they will provide you with some information on their background.

You will quickly realize that Pirna is just hiding behind the seemingly big names of Dresden, Meissen and Bautzen. The old town is almost completely renovated with only a few exceptions. Lovers of architecture and its history will enjoy it to the fullest.

It must have had a reason, why the historic old town was voted 2nd place being the most beautiful old town in Central Germany by viewers of the MDR (TV station) in 2007.

Pirna and its residents are open to visitors who simply wish to stroll through the streets and experience the atmosphere of a quiet small town. In case you might get lost, do not hesitate to ask locals for directions. Tourists are always welcome in Pirna.

With the first sun rays in spring, countless cafés call to linger and relax. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be dressed fancy. Thirsty cyclists are being served as much as tired hikers. In fact, all guests are welcome.

Taking a walk in the evening to stop by in one of the many restaurants, the choice is almost endless. From the traditional homemade kitchen, Mediterranean cuisine to gourmet restaurants, Pirna has something to cater for all tastes.

Far from the big department stores of Dresden, many small shops and boutiques can be found in our town. The owners are courteous will individually help. Strike up a conversation and you may get one or two secret hints to our town.
